How are you today?
Thom here and I had a great idea today that I want to share with you. It’s something very short and sweet, simple and practical.
Here’s the deal: You all by now are pretty well convinced that it’s important to let your customers and potential customers get to know you first on a more personal basis so that they can feel good about doing business with you. Remember this, even if you forget every thing else, are you ready? Every business has a what. you tell you prospects WHAT your product or service does but they are really interested in the WHY.
We’ve already discussed that very few businesses, and probably not yours either, have the absolute only solution to a customer’s problem. Therefore you need to give your customers and potential customers a reason to prefer the WHY doing business with you, right?
Well, you know that videos are a great way to connect with your customers and here’s a super simple way to do it.
Everybody who has a business has some aspect of the business that somebody else thinks is interesting, right? Everybody’s business has the elements of some kind of story to it and why your business loves the neighborhood. Let me give you an example:
Let’s say you have a flower store. You can bet that your customers don’t have the slightest idea how you receive your merchandise, how carefully it’s packed, where those flowers actually come from, what the real botanical names of them are and many other items of information that you take for granted. Right?
So what I’d recommend doing is have somebody follow you around and take pictures and videos of you and what you do during your average day. You’ve got your choice of doing it all on one day or doing it a little bit each day over several days. But the idea is to assemble a series in pictures and or videos that you can add captions to or maybe add a musical background with captions. Videos of course have audio already with them.
The point is… what could be easier than just giving people a bit of insight into what you do and the WHY. I’ll guarantee you that you’ll find yourself coming up with something interesting to say more sooner than later. It doesn’t have to be a 20 minute speech but rather just a brief comment giving people some insight into the ‘real’ you and the ‘behind the scenes’ perspective on what you do and Why you do it.
Let’s take another example:
Let’s say perhaps you’re an accountant or you sell insurance. If you’re an account there’s a lot of things you could simply comment on…e.g. some of the books on your shelf, an interesting article you’re reading right now and how that’s going to apply to a particular client of your (without names of course!).
If you sell insurance, you could talk about an interesting industry related topic or perhaps about a few of the claims you’ve paid that made a big difference to the recipient. Or perhaps you could talk about some of the sophisticated software you use to make quotes and proposals.
You can bet that there are many things about your business that are interesting. You don’t have to give people a 4 year degree about your business and industry but just show them that you’re on top of your game and that you’re the go to guy or gal they can trust to do the right thing for them.
If you’ll make a video, or several, like that and put it on your channel the next thing to do is invite people to comment. Remember how you’ve learned recently that YouTube is looking for videos that engage their audience. Maybe you can even add some humor to it.
That’s my idea anyway. It’s super easy to do. Just be yourself, be an Actor for real, and do what you already normally do…but get it on video. Set up your YouTube Channel, put the video(s) on the channel and…that’s it. The important thing is to get started. Google wants to see information and so does the neighborhood so…give’em what they want.
